St. Louis Blues Oskar Sundqvist Should Be Fine…Hopefully

The St. Louis Blues released their optimistic appraisal of a potential injury. The question will be whether we believe it or not.

The St. Louis Blues head coach, Craig Berube, talked to the media and gave his update on Oskar Sundqvist. According to the head honcho, Sundqvist should be fine unless he has any setbacks.

The last time Berbue said that about an injury, it turned out to be true. Pat Maroon had a scare after a potential cut on his leg, but he ended up being just fine.

However, this is not always the case. We have heard plenty of tales about players seeming to be alright, only to seek out another opinion and be out for weeks.

So, the question falls down to each person. Do you believe Sundqvist is going to be alright and be available for the games against Detroit and Tampa, or do you think the injury bug will bite again and he will be on the shelf?

In the defense of the doubters, Berube was not or could not be 100% definitive. “He should be fine,” Berube said in the Post-Dispatch. “He’s a little sore today but getting treatment and stuff. So we’ll see tomorrow morning how he’s doing.”

There is wiggle room for the possibility of Sundqvist being out. All that it takes is a tweak or wrong movement and he’s on the shelf.

The issue for us knowing is we do not even know what hurts. They have not even listed it as an upper or lower-body injury, though you would assume it is upper.

The worry is shoulder or arm. Sundqvist was holding his arm as though he did not want it to move as he left the ice after Milan Lucic‘s dirty hit. As someone who has had his shoulder out of socket, that is basically how you hold yourself with that injury.

The counter point to that is you would think the coach would not be so optimistic if there was potential for any long-term injury. Thus, we do not have any real reason not to believe the statement.

Hopefully, he can go. Sundqvist has been one of the biggest and best surprises of the 2018-19 season.

Plenty of people, myself included, did not even want him on the team and a waste of a roster spot. Instead, he has already crushed all his career totals and could hit 30 points.

Early in the season, I would have thrown a fit if I heard he was going to be on the second line. Now, it seems like he is a decent fit in that section, providing a little muscle and hustle with the skill of Jaden Schwartz and David Perron. That trio combined for 15 points in the last game against Edmonton.

Time will tell, but we should all keep our fingers crossed for his health. Hopefully, the coach is right and Sunny will be good to go.
