Former fourth-round draft pick Ville Husso returns to the St. Louis Blues on a one-year, two-way contract, keeping him with the note for a fourth season.

Ville Husso was once deemed a potential solution to a St. Louis Blues goaltending situation that was worse for the wear before the unexpected heroics of Jordan Binnington last season.

While he may have fallen a little off the radar after an injury-riddled 2018-19, Husso could easily find himself back in the goaltending fold if he can return to his old form.

The 24-year-old netminder will look to rebound from a rough 2018-19 season in which his save percentage dropped to .871 while surrendering 3.67 goals a game.

Husso began professional hockey with the Blues in 2016-17 after a red-hot season in the SM-liiga (Finnish Elite League) where he posted a .927 save percentage, 1.91 goals-against average (GAA), and a 25-7-6 record.

The young Finnish goalie kept it rolling into the AHL posting winning seasons in each of his first two years, and a save percentage north of .920 with both the Chicago Wolves and San Antonio Rampage.

After a disappointing season in 2018-19, Husso has been all but written off. Jordan Binnington and Jake Allen seem to be locked into the two goalie slots on the NHL roster, and a struggling AHL goalie does not seem to factor into the equation.

This is a goalie that should not be written off easily, however. When healthy, the Helsinki native has shown what he can do, and it would put the Blues in a fantastic spot.

If all three goalies perform to their capabilities, St. Louis will have hit the goaltending jackpot. Having three strong goalies could guarantee that the Blues have reliable goaltending all season while providing flexibility at the trade deadline if they decide to move Allen or Husso.

The biggest question surrounding Husso’s status with the organization is how far down is he on the depth chart. Evan Fitzpatrick was called up by the Blues last season when St. Louis needed a backup goalie, and he had a stellar season in the minors.

With all the potential in the world, expect a healthy Ville Husso to return to his former self. If he can find his form, the St. Louis Blues will be sitting on a goaltending goldmine.
