St. Louis Blues Dominik Bokk Is An Important Cog In Future Plans
St. Louis Blues 2018 first-round pick Dominik Bokk will have an important role to fill when the Blues call him up to the NHL, and he will come with a lot of responsibility.
The St. Louis Blues have a top-heavy farm system, and former first-rounder Dominik Bokk’s name is being thrown around with some of the best prospects the Blues currently own the rights to.
Bokk, like any first-round pick, has some high expectations attached to his name because of where he was selected. The 6’2 right-handed shot is currently playing in Sweden, but we could see him play in North America soon.
The 19-year-old’s numbers in Sweden are not all that impressive and may be a result of a teenager playing in a grown man’s league. However, players like Robert Thomas have been able to overcome this challenge and put up good numbers.

After being selected by the Blues two year ago, Bokk has remained in Sweden’s SHL, but he has also seen time in the SuperElit league.
In the SHL, the winger has played in 62 games over two seasons, and has scored nine goals and tallied 16 assists.
However, Bokk has had more success playing in the SuperElit league than in the SHL.
In the SuperElit, Bokk has 36 career games under his belt and has netted 15 goals and 27 assists, bringing his career point total in this league to 42.
The young German has also seen some playoff success while playing in Sweden, though it is a small sample size. In nine career playoff games in the SuperElit, Bokk has five goals and 12 points.
The initial scouting reports on Bokk suggest that he is a playmaker with great passing and good one-on-one play, which is similar to what we saw from Thomas in his rookie season.
The lackluster scoring numbers listed above reaffirm these reports of Bokk’s offensive abilities. Even if Bokk does not turn into a 20-goal scorer, there is still tremendous use for him in St. Louis.
The winger has yet to play a single second in North America, so let’s say that Bokk will not be playing for the Blues for another three years. The team will still have players like Vladimir Tarasenko, David Perron and Ryan O’Reilly under contract.
Not to mention young players like Jordan Kyrou and Klim Kostin who are waiting for an opportunity to make contributions at the NHL level.
A playmaking winger like Bokk can bring some much-needed playmaking ability on a team that has an abundance of potent scorers. A line of Tarasenko-Thomas-Bokk sounds like a fun line to watch for five years.
In a salary capped league, your first-round picks need to pan out to be useful at some point in their careers. Bokk is still young and has plenty of time to develop, but once he does get the call, whenever that is, St. Louis will need him to play up to his potential.
