Jordan Kyrou is one of the most recognizable prospect names for the St. Louis Blues coming into 2019. With only 16 games under his belt on a Blues team with a ton of forward depth, what kind of a role can Kyrou play in the upcoming season?

The St. Louis Blues head into camp with young talent all over the roster. Jordan Kyrou, Sammy Blais, Zach Sanford, Mackenzie MacEachern, Robert Thomas, and Robby Fabbri are all young, talented players who will be competing for ice time the entire year.

Much like the other names on the list, Kyrou was up and down between the AHL and NHL this past season. He put up a mere three points in 16 games in the big leagues with a +/- of -1.  The only thing these numbers tell us is that he did not find his NHL stride in the 2018-19 season.

At every level of hockey, Jordan Kyrou has found a way to put up points. More specifically, he dominated in his time with the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The Toronto native accumulated 99 goals, 191 assists, and 290 total points in his time with the Sarnia Sting.

In 2016-17, he put up 94 points (30 G, 64 A) and in 2017-18 he put up an astounding 109 points (39 G 70 A). Kyrou even produced in the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships with the Canadian 20U team in 2018 and scored 10 points in seven games.

He hit a little bit of a snag in this past season at the higher level. Early in the season, he struggled in the NHL with the Blues and in 47 games with the Rampage he scored 43 points (16 G, 27 A).

While those numbers are not a disappointment, it is nowhere near the point/game ratio that we saw in the OHL. One positive is that he earned AHL Player of the Month honors in December when he scored 15 points in nine games.

Unfortunately, the 21-year-old center experienced a knee injury this summer which could put his NHL roster bid in trouble. He is expected to make a full recovery by camp, but with a highly touted prospect like this, the Blues may decide to let him ease back into things.

Other than the potential lingering effects of the knee injury, Jordan Kyrou could make a serious bid to make the roster out of camp or later in the year. I would expect that he makes the proper adjustments to take his game to the next level in the AHL which could propel him into a full-time role with the big club in the next two seasons.

The Blues could also opt to throw him into a trade in the next few seasons because of the amount of young talent that is piling up in the system. If they decide to make a playoff push with a mid-season trade, I would not be surprised at all to see Kyrou (or another one of these guys) moved.

All in all, Jordan Kyrou has an incredibly bright future in the NHL. Whether he finds himself on the Blues or a different NHL team, the 21-year-old has the potential to be a top-four forward.
