The most notable absence from the St. Louis Blues training camp roster is 2018 first-round pick Dominik Bokk, who will forego the camp to finish his season in Sweden.

On the initial release of the roster for the upcoming training camp, Dominik Bokk’s absence was eye-raising. However, the St. Louis Blues are making the right move keeping Bokk in Sweden.

Bokk was drafted two years ago by the Blues in the first round, St. Louis ended up trading up in the draft to acquire him, and he has spent the last three years playing in Sweden with the Vaxjo Lakers and Rogle BK.

Even with the significance of training camp to a young player like Bokk, he won’t get the same kind of competitive competition in North America then we would playing in a European regular season.

More from Prospects

Bokk has had quite the career playing in Sweden, netting 67 points over three seasons of action. He’s more of a playmaking winger but still has some goal-scoring potential that he has not reached.

He has displayed much better numbers at the international level, which may be more of an indication of what many teams saw in him and why Bokk was eventually a first-round pick.

The German international has competed in the World Junior Championships and has played with German National Team in a variety of other events. In total, Bokk has played in 56 games for Germany and has tallied 23 goals and 44 assists.

Bokk is still a year or two away from even attempting to make the Blues’ roster, so keeping him out of St. Louis for the fall is not a bad idea.

The 2020 roster is looking full as it is, with players like Jordan Kyrou and Klim Kostin on the outside looking in, there is no chance that Bokk makes a good enough impression to speed up his timeline.

The best thing for Bokk to do is to keep killing it in Sweden. Bokk being a first-round pick virtually guarantees the Blues giving him a chance to play once he comes to North America.

There is no room for Bokk on the roster, and even during preseason games and intrasquad scrimmages, he is still going to be pushed down the totem pole behind the likes of Kostin and Kyrou.
