St. Louis Blues: Sammy Blais On Course For First All-Star Game
Despite some lackluster games in succession, St. Louis Blues forward Sammy Blais has had a great start to the season and is on course to make his first ASG appearance.
The St. Louis Blues might as well rename training camp the Sammy Blais show. Because over the past two years, the young forward has distanced himself from the rest of the group and has earned spots on the opening night roster.
Last year, Blais showed signs of his brilliance, his play really stood out during the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season but failed to put together a complete 82 game regular season.
Fast forward to this season, Blais has been incredible, and he is starting to put together a complete season, and as a result, he may not need to travel very far for his first all-star game.

The 23-year old forward raced out to a great start this season with four points in his first three games of the season. He scored the team’s first goal of the year on opening night against the Capitals and tallied another score in the next game against the Stars.
Despite not earning a point in three consecutive games, Blais could be a Blues representative when they host the all-star game in January.
He was the Blues best forward to start the season, making plays in all facets of the game and contributing at an incredible pace on offense. Obviously, the pace he was on to start the year likely could not be maintained throughout, so his lack of production is not a complete surprise.
What makes Blais an intriguing all-star candidate is that the rest of the Blues offense has been spread out, and no one has stood out for an extended period of time.
If you had asked me a week ago who I thought the early candidate was to represent St. Louis, Blais would have been my pick, and it would not have been close.
Today, the nod would go to Brayden Schenn and, if not him, David Perron. We had seen glimpses of offensive brilliance from Schenn before, but nothing like his five goals and three assists in eight games this season.
Perron has also lit up the scoresheet this season, with goals in half of the games he has played in 2019. Perron would be considered more of a goal scorer than Schenn just based off the back of their hockey cards, which is why Blais has moved down the list.
This isn’t an article to freak out about the lack of production we have seen from Blais this past week, but to celebrate the start he has had and appreciate the Blues scouting department for finding him in the sixth round of the draft.
