The St. Louis Blues have just announced that they have recalled Klim Kostin from AAA San Antonio. Where he slots in and what this means is to be determined, but many in Blues fandom have gotten their wish.

The St. Louis Blues announced that Klim Kostin will make his way to the team and potentially start in the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night. It’s a moment we have all been waiting for, but let’s stay calm and keep the expectations low.

Klim Kostin has amassed 8pts in 14 games for San Antonio on the back of a tremendous performance in the St. Louis Blues preseason. Will the preseason performance carry over to the NHL regular season? We all definitely hope so.

Kostin immediately brings size and skill to the Blues’ team and I believe he will get every chance to showcase that skill while he is here. I believe he is a Craig Berube type player and although he will make some mistakes in the 200′ game, the payoff from his offensive potential should erase those learning mistakes in time.

Preferably, I’d like to see Kostin working with Sammy Blais and Tyler Bozak to get his feet wet.

Let’s see what he and those two can do on the offensive side while Bozak, using Ivan Barbashev as a translator when necessary, teaches Kostin the 200′ game.

Nonetheless Kostin I believe is going to do whatever he can to remain in the NHL while he is here.

Some may still believe that he belongs in the AHL where he will be getting more meaningful minutes. That can be argued, but I think the young guy is ready to get a taste of the NHL.

At the very least he can gauge his own game and where he is at and hopefully see why the coaches are sending him down to work on the things they have been suggesting he work on.

I believe that the time is now for Kostin. 8 points in 14 games isn’t lighting the AHL up, but I believe the way he’s been playing down, focussing more on the 200′ game is the reason for not being at a point per game pace in the AHL.

Kyrou is off to a hot start, but he’s fresh off of kneecap surgery and has only played 2 games I believe. So he needs more time to get his sea legs under him. He may be a bigger offensive threat currently, but over the long haul, I think Kostin is going to be the better overall player and scoring threat.

I expect to see Vladimir Tarasenko around the club much more even on the road now that Kostin is up in order to mentor him a bit. This is, of course, would be when the rehab schedule allows the time. In which case Ivan Barbashev can definitely teach Kostin a thing or two and help him in understanding the coach’s instructions when needed.

Will Kostin light it up while he is here? Doubtful. The realistic view is that with the time he can learn and develop his game even more while here. If he gets sent back down I think it would be on merit and something the youngster will certainly accept after he sees what NHL hockey looks like.

The time has come St. Louis! Klim Kostin is making his debut! We all have been clamoring for it since the preseason and the time has come! (Can you tell I’m excited?) I’m measuredly excited though. Ecstatic the kid is getting a look and will get the experience.

I will be elated if the kid just starts lighting it up and comes away with 20 goals for the rest of the season. Wow, wouldn’t that be amazing?!?! Realistically though this could be and up and then back down again call up with Kostin benefitting from the experience. At least I know the kid will shoot the puck as opposed to some other player on the team currently.

Drop the puck!

******Update******

According to Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic, there is no guarantee that Kostin gets into Friday or Saturday’s game. He was called up due to the back to backs and San Antonio is in Manitoba and there are no direct flights from there. you can find that tweet here.

Put me in coach! I’m ready to play! I’ll be at the game on Saturday in St. Louis and if Kostin isn’t playing I will certainly be working on getting the crowd to join in on a We Want Kostin Chant!
