The St. Louis Blues Sammy Blais will undergo surgery on his right wrist and will be re-evaluated in 10 weeks. Doug Armstrong made the announcement today.

The St. Louis Blues depth will be challenged even more after the Blues GM Doug Armstrong announced that Sammy Blais will need to undergo surgery on his right wrist and won’t be evaluated for 10 weeks.

The injuries are starting to pile up with the Blues already without Vladimir Tarasenko and Alex Steen to injuries. Adding Sammy Blais to that list stings that much more.

Sammy Blais was a 6th round draft pick for the Blues and was starting to contribute to the club last season. He is a fast skater, has a good shot, but most of all he provided a real physical presence for the Blues up front.

More from Injury Updates

It’s never a good time for an injury. This is especially true when you have two big minutes players already on the shelf.

Blais was getting his best opportunity to showcase his game this season as he stood out in preseason and essentially took the second line wing position for himself.

He is 7th in the league in hits and although he hasn’t scored recently he has shown flashes.

The Blues will be hard-pressed to find another player in their system to play the way Blais had been. He was showing some chemistry with David Perron and was being used on the second power-play unit.

It’s a tough blow to an already inured team. Not only did play earn his spot in the lineup he was earning the acceptance and hearts of the Blues’ fans.

The Blues have already recalled Klim Kostin and this could be just the window of opportunity he needs to really earn some meaningful minutes.

The Blues also announced that they signed 34-year-old Troy Brouwer to a one year $750 thousand two-way contract. May have been a signing of necessity seeing as it happened and was announced right after the Blais announcement.

Many fans will want to see prospect Jordan Kyrou get called up. That may still happen here soon, but for the time being no other recalls have been announced.

The Blues have shown they can rise and meet adversity head-on. Let’s hope they continue to do so. Sammy Blais wasn’t piling up the points just yet, but I think we all felt it was just a matter of time before he really started to contribute more offensively.

I personally was really liking Blais’ play and really felt he was right there about to really contribute offensively more consistently. His physical presence will definitely be missed. Kostin could benefit most from this if he seizes the opportunity.

The St. Louis Blues are resilient. Injuries happen and are expected. It’s really unfortunate for Blais. It’s another opportunity for this team to show their Moxy! The Blues won the cup with solid depth. That depth was tested last season and it’s being tested even further this season. We wish Sammy a quick recovery and look forward to him getting back and knocking guys into the third row again!
