The St. Louis Blues young star in the making prospect Klim Kostin was injured in his first game back after his call up to the NHL in San Antonio with the Rampage last night.

Fresh off his first taste of the NHL and his first NHL goal Klim Kostin was sent back down to get the substantial ice time he needs to develop and be a bright star of the future for the St. Louis Blues.

All in all his first stint with the big club went well. He netted his first career goal and got to see how the NHL players prepare for games day in and day out. He got a taste of what the practice pace is like and flashed the talent that has the Blues front office and Blues’ fans salivating for the day he is truly ready.

The Blues sent him back down to their AHL affiliate the San Antonio Rampage so Kostin could get the meaningful minutes he needs to continue to develop. The coaches and front office liked what they saw in his first call up, but ultimately said he still needs more time to develop his game. So they sent him down.

More from Injury Updates

Well, things couldn’t have gone worse for Kostin in his return to the AHL. Kostin appears to have injured his shoulder in last night’s game.

Kostin was carrying the puck into the offensive zone and had cut to the middle of the ice where he was met by a Rockford IceHogs defenseman.

Kostin went down and was writhing in pain on the ice. Here’s the hit. Brace yourself.

Kostin doesn’t even wait for the trainer. He writhes in pain for a few moments and gets to his feet and goes immediately off the ice with what appears to be a shoulder injury. It could be a collar bone as well. There are no reports as of yet on the injury.

The worry here is that Kostin has had shoulder issues in the past so my first thought is great it’s his shoulder. We will do our best to report the injury and its severity as we learn more.

The biggest trouble with this is it happened in the AHL and reports from there are sometimes few and far between, but with a player like Kostin and his potential, we should be able to get more info in regards to his injury as it unfolds.

Although this injury doesn’t affect the NHL Blues, we can still add it to the list of unfortunate injuries for the club in the 2019-20 season. Hopefully, it is nothing too serious and we’ll see Kostin back on the ice in San Antonio sooner rather than later. If it is serious then hopefully the taste of the NHL is the motivation Kostin needs to be fully dedicated to his recovery and he can return to full form.
