The St. Louis Blues broadcaster John Kelly has been infected with covid-19. The team confirmed the details.

The St. Louis Blues announced today that their television broadcaster, John Kelly, has tested positive for the covid-19 virus. It was a bit of a shock for all Blues fandom.

The odd thing about the press release on the team website and through their app was saying the team was “confirming”.

The St. Louis Blues are confirming that play-by-play announcer John Kelly has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Perhaps I have taken myself out of the new cycle enough to miss where this would need to be confirmed. Was this a rumor going around that the team had to jump in front of?

Regardless, the situation with Kelly just continues to baffle those trying to understand this virus.

Kelly is apparently asymptomatic, meaning he has no fever or sore throat, etc. The press release said he is feeling strong.

The only curious thing is if he was symptom free, what prompted the test in the first place? Are the Blues having everyone tested once they had an unnamed employee’s family member tested positive?

That would make sense to do so. It is just odd that nothing more was said.

Nothing private needs to be said, like personal information on that family. That should not be released, nor should anything regarding Kelly or his family that he does not choose to release.

The only confusing thing from a public perspective is the timing – not of the announcement, but in contracting it. Kelly was in self isolation since March 13.

Is he just now symptom free or was he always symptom free? Did the test just take time to come back?

We will likely never know and perhaps the answers are unimportant in the grand scheme of things. It’s just another rock on this pile of confusion we all have about what is going on and how this virus affects people. We are all just trying to process each new piece of information as we get it.

*Update: an interview with John Kelly by Chris Kerber about this situation can be seen here.

The good thing is that he seems to be in good spirits and health. That is the main thing.

As fans, all we can do is wish the Kelly family the best and say prayers if that is our way.

Whether you love them as a broadcaster or not, these are people at the end of the day. I have personally always preferred Ken Wilson, but John Kelly is still a member of the Blues family and the St. Louis family.

He’s provided us with many memories and joy, just like his father and the Bucks. Let us all hope that he stays in good health and we can hear many more Un-be-leivable’s in the near future.
