Fans of the St. Louis Blues should often be accepting of any talent that puts on their sweater. There are certain exceptions that make the skin crawl.

Every St. Louis Blues fan can come up with a different list of guys they’d like to see put on a Blues uniform and often there will be another fan that just would not like that. However, there are a number of players that just make your brain itch and your stomach turn at the thought of them playing in St. Louis.

With nothing better going on, sports fans have too much time on their hands to imagine these sorts of things. NBC Sports in Chicago revealed that a graphic designer had been swapping star players onto their rival teams and it just got all sorts of weird.

You would think that the team gaining some of these talents would be more than happy. The Blues could really use a 40-plus goal scorer.

There are just some things that should not be, however. It does not always have to do with the rivalry alone, either.

I have written several times about the 2006 draft. There is no doubt that the Blues would have been far better off if they had taken Jonathan Toews instead of Erik Johnson.

As much as Toews is associated with the Chicago Blackhawks at this point, you could imagine him in a Blues sweater. You would be able to keep your lunch in the stomach as well.

The same is not true of others. I cannot speak for everyone, but the number of people that could stomach the idea of Ed Belfour in a Blues uniform has to be minuscule.

The same goes for Jeremy Roenick or Chris Chelios. Chelios might be the most palatable of that trio, but that is likely only because the passage of time has softened the hatred felt.

It has been quite some time since any rival had a player like that. For me, it is Jamie Benn, but there are probably Blues fans that would not mind that.

I cannot imagine many Blues fans being OK with this monstrosity. This comment has nothing to do with the design, since it’s actually a pretty good photoshop. It doesn’t look any more photoshopped than the most recent cover for EA Sports NHL series and that was taken from an actual photo.

No, the idea of Patrick Kane in a Blues uniform just does not sit right. It takes your soul, twists it up a bit, and puts it back inside you.

Kane doesn’t elicit the same utter, seething hatred that the Blackhawks of the early 1990’s did for me, but it’s as close as things have come for awhile. Some of it has to do with off ice issues, but other parts are because he plays into it.

Like a pro wrestling heel (villain), he knows how to rile up the crowd. We boo every success and relish all his pain.

Next. Jaden Schwartz became what we wanted one year ago. dark

To turn all that around and expect fans to cheer is a stretch. Nothing is impossible, but seeing that man wearing 88 in blue is more than this commentator can handle.
