The St. Louis Blues will stream their final scrimmage prior to the 2021 season. Better late than never.
The St. Louis Blues are usually quite good with their social media game and in terms of being on top of trends. When it comes to streaming, they’re just a bit behind.
While other teams have already streamed some of their practice games, or scrimmages if you will, the Blues are a little late to the party. Better late than never, I suppose.
The Blues will broadcast their final scrimmage of 2021 on YouTube. While there is nothing wrong with that – in fact, it’s a good thing – you just wonder why none of the other ones were.
The Blues, as a team, were trying to treat all their scrimmages like actual games, which is why they have all been more in the evening. They wanted to have morning skates, take naps or have pregame meals and treat it like a normal game day.

While the players would not be affected, why not treat it like a normal game day for the camera crew as well? I’m not sure how the union contracts work, but you could either use the in-house camera crew or even the one that runs the cameras for the Fox Sports broadcasts (assuming they’re not the same crew).
You’d have replays, just like would be on the jumbotron. That is probably what we will see this evening, so why not the other games?
The Chicago Blackhawks have already streamed one of their scrimmages, as have a handful of other teams. So, it’s not as though the Blues could not have done it.
For all we know, they might have wanted those early practice games to be more “behind closed doors”, though there were media members present since we’ve seen a handful of photos and gotten reports about who’s doing what on special teams. There was even an article about a nice goal that Niko Mikkola scored, so these aren’t completely closed off.
Ultimately, I think the Blues just did not think of it. Under normal circumstances, that would be fine, but fans are starved.
Give us all the puck possible.
