Blues Earn Another Losing Streak in Winnipeg Collapse
The St. Louis Blues looked well on their way to defeating Central Division rival Winnipeg Jets, in their final night before the All-Star break, at the Canada Life Centre. But like so many times, this season, St. Louis laid yet another egg.
4 unanswered goals from the Jets sealed the Blues’ fate in a 4-2 defeat. It was their 5th straight loss, and their 4th different losing streak of the season.
Despite Jake Neighbours and Nikita Alexandrov giving the Blues a 2-0 advantage heading into the 3rd period, after a mostly quiet 2nd and dead silent 1st by both teams, things once again fell apart. After Alexander’s tally, Winnipeg only needed 40 seconds to get themselves on the board for the first time that night.
They would do the same with a pair of goals scored by Mark Scheifele and Josh Morrissey, who both had 2 goals apiece by the end of the night. The Blues-Jets contest marked the third time this season that the Blues couldn’t hold a lead in the later stages of a game.
With that, the Blues enter their All-Star game/bye week break with a five-game losing streak. That’s brought them to a lowly 23-25-3 record.
On top of that, just 31 games remain when the team returns to action Feb. 11 against Arizona. The Blues are eight points behind Colorado for the second wild-card spot and nine points behind Minnesota for third place in the Central Division.
Colton Parayko said that the Blues just need to have the right mentality. The only problem with that is the fact they don’t have said mentality on enough nights, like the Winnipeg, Chicago or Buffalo loss for example.
In the understatement of the season for the Blues, head coach Craig Berube mentioned that St. Louis didn’t manage things in the 3rd well enough. Do you think so?
Berube also said a lot of the team aspects, in general, this year haven’t been good enough. Also true.
On a more positive note…
