3 Blues players facing make-or-break seasons in 2026-27

These three St. Louis Blues players enter the 2026-27 season with plenty to prove as they look to secure their futures and silence the doubters.

The St. Louis Blues as a whole are entering a season full of uncertainity and wonder when October comes around. For 2026-27, there is no projection or anticipated prediction that will come close to what the actual result will be.

With that said, there are a number of players that are up for new contracts following the end of it, and that can only mean one thing. These players have to either put up or shut up in 2026-27 to try and earn the biggest bag possible. Whether that be from the Blues, or elsewhere.

Let's go over three that have the most to gain and certainly the most to lose next season.

Jordan Binnington

Nobody is under more pressure to perform next season than goaltender Jordan Binnington. His starter's net has been unofficially given away to backup Joel Hofer, and rightfully so. And, there is a very good chance that a lot of teams that are in a playoff position-esque place, that wait in need of a goaltender, are going to be calling to ask about the franchise's all-time winningest goaltender.

Plus, this is the end of his current deal, and expect it to get messy should the Blues decide to hold on to him after this season. If he cannot contribute like his usual self, Binnington's time might be over at some point next season.

Pius Suter

Another interesting case of of center Pius Suter, and where hie fits into the overall scheme of things. With Robert Thomas not going anywhere, and Dalibor Dvorsky still developing, Suter is kind of stuck in the middle, somewhere.

Not to mention that the Blues have an opportunity to land a solid center with the 11th overall pick in the upcoming draft, which further pushes Suter into fight-or-flight territory. He is also at the end of his current deal, but if there are key centers moving up the pipeline and Dvorsky evolves into the player that all fans are hoping for him to be, Suter might have seen himself out.

Jimmy Snuggerud

Finally, another player that is entering a contract year, but has to have a great season to help his case, is Jimmy Snuggerud. Let us be perfectly clear, No. 21 is not going anywhere.

But, the reason why he is going to be under so much pressure next season is because the hockey world is wondering if the 2025-26 season was a bit of beginner's luck. Can a sophomore slump be incoming?
