The St. Louis Blues are entering the final sprint of the season, and they are in a split decision. In the next couple of games, the final set of games will either consist of their current roster that is trying to vie for a playoff spot, or a bunch of kids making their NHL debuts.
Here are three of those prospects that should make their debuts this season, if the season ultimately gets away from the Blues.
Félix Trudeau
This one is hot off the presses, as the Blues announced this morning that they have signed undrafted free agent Félix Trudeau to an entry-level contract for the next two seasons. He was a standout at Sacred Heart, at the NCAA-level, with 25 goals and 23 assists for 48 points this season. He also had the fifth-most penalty minutes in all of College Hockey with 87.
For now, it looks like he will go to Springfield, but expect him to make the jump to the NHL-level before the season ends.
Love Harenstam
This is probably the second-most anticipated prospect in the Blues' farm system, as the entire landscape of this franchise's goaltending future is about to change. With Joel Hofer slowly starting to take over the starting duties for Jordan Binnington, who may or may not be moved this summer, Love Harenstam is patiently awaiting the opportunity. We might see a glimpse of that before the season ends, if the playoffs are completely out of reach.
Justin Carbonneau
Carboneau-mania is upon us, but there is a slight chance that timing might be an issue. With the QMJHL playoffs getting ready to start, and the Blues regular season coming to a close nearly the same time, it is possible to see Justin Carbonneau make his NHL debut this season. But, if the Blues keep on playing great hockey and force themselves into a playoff spot themselves, then this much anticipated debut might slide back until next season.
