The St. Louis Blues can either make some serious noise next season or else it will be another middle-of-the-road performance. Even still, no matter the end result, there is still a chance that a few players will end next season with a new career high.
At the moment, there is a new and exciting top-six forward group, a nearly-rounded defensive unit, and a new starting goaltender who is expected to take over for a franchise legend. And a player from each of those groups should be ending next season with a new benchmark for their career.
Robert Thomas
The first line will be the bread and butter of the Blues this upcoming season. Robert Thomas has two comparable linemates in Jimmy Snuggerud and Dylan Holloway, who established themselves a little too late in 2025-26.
Thomas’ career high currently sits at 86 points, which was set back in 2023-24. If he can stay healthy and this first line competes the same way it did last season, the 100-point mark should be achievable.
He was just snubbed from the top-20 centers list via the NHL Network, and that should be some added motivation for him for next season. That will not stand following the 2026-27 campaign.
Philip Broberg
Philip Broberg is entering the first year of his brand new deal, and all of the pressure is on him as the team’s top defenseman. Head coach Jim Montgomery is going to be leaning on him heavily in multiple spots during the game, and that should be plenty of motivation.
His current career-high was just achieved last season with 34 points. Expect that to inflate to the 50-point mark or higher, as this is now his defensive unit to run. The expectations and elevated responsibility will aid him in hitting new milestones.
Joel Hofer
The defensive unit got a little shot of adrenaline this summer, as Brandon Carlo was brought in. He is not the player potentially setting a career high, but he adds an extra layer of security for goaltender Joel Hofer.
Next season should see No. 30 enter that starting role, and with it could come upwards of 60 starts. If he is the Blues' current and long-term plan, then he should get the opportunity to show it. Thus, a chance to get new career highs across the board.
Hofer has some sturdy competition building up behind him in the prospect pool. If he cannot elevate his game to carry on the legacy of Jordan Binnington, he could be expendable.
