The St. Louis Blues just lost to a red-hot Buffalo Sabres squad, who are now on a 10-game win streak to end 2025, and then had to travel to Colorado to take on the Avalanche. It was clear that the Blues stood absolutely no chance, and the 6-1 score proved how much of a disparity there is between the two Central Division teams.

There was a lot of negativity to take away from this game, and there is a very dark outlook on the rest of this season as the calendar turns to 2026. Let's break it down.

What a letdown

What a disappointment that was. It was a complete shellshock for the Blues, as they had as many shots as the Avs had goals, when the game was 4-0. There was nothing for goaltender Jordan Binnington to do, as his team just lay down in front of him and gave up.

After a solid showing against that Sabres team that is streaking to end the year, this was going to be a loss no matter what. The Avalanche have a record of 30-2-7 on the year, which is absurd. There was not a shot in hell that this team was going to be any bit close to winning this game. But, to keep it close or keep it within a goal or two would have shown how close this Blues team was to being a potential playoff contender.

What a letdown.

Colorado is the best show on ice

As it was highlighted before, the Avalanche have only lost two games all season in regulation. We just entered January, and 39 games of action. That is points in 37 games, and when the season is over, this will be a generational run by a great hockey team.

The Blues are in this constant state of misidentity. This team doesn't know what or where it wants to be and go, and that confusion is causing some long-term issues. Colorado is the best show on ice, and it isn't even close.

Dvrosky scored, but it didn’t matter

One of the highlights from this game is the fact that Dalibor Dvorsky got on the scoresheet. This was his first time lighting the lamp since he scored two goals against the Nashville Predators on December 15.

Unfortunately, it did not matter as the game was already well in hand for Colorado. Dvorsky has to try to get a bit more consistent, even if he is still a rookie. With six goals and three assists for nine points on the year, there is still some room for improvement for him, but it has been a good sign of positive things to come.
