4 Nations Face-Off Championship: USA vs Canada...the Rematch…Must see TV…Canada wins it in OT 3 to 2

Connor McDavid scored the game-winner 8:18 into overtime after Jordan Binnington made the saves of the game, stopping three Austin Matthews point-blank shots to give Canada a chance against Team USA. Binnington with 31 saves overall to backstop Canada and quiet the critics.

Preview: After an incredible game last Saturday night that started with three fights in the first nine seconds and a 3-1 win for the USA…it’s going to be hard to match the intensity we saw between these two teams. Great stars on both sides…One game to decide the Championship!

Jordan Binnington once again gets the start in net, his 4th in a row for Team Canada. Connor Hellebuyck starts for the USA.

Period 1…Canada scores first…USA ties it up…

The chants of the USA raining down…here we go…it feels like a game 7!!

Colton Parayko with an early chance as he broke in on the right side and his shot was deflected wide.

Nathan MacKinnon, a shot from the high slot, makes it 1-0 Canada at 4:38…Hellebuyck screened, and the shot beat him high to the stick side. Canada’s 4th shot…three shots so far for the USA.

Binnington makes a breakaway save with the blocker just over seven minutes left, keeping it 1 to 0. 5 shots…5 saves. Binnington handled the puck well behind the net on several occasions.

On their 10th shot on goal, Brady Tkachuk gets a fluttering shot over Binnington’s shoulder on the stick side off a pass from behind the net and finds him in the slot. We are tied at 1 with 3:28 left in the period.

The period ends tied at 1 and shots on goal tied at 10.

Period 2…a goal for each team…

With 12:28 left in the second period, a scramble in front of the Canadian net and shot sneaks through and past Binnington into the net. USA’s 3rd shot of the period. Not much of a chance for Binnington. Jake Sanderson with the goal.

With 11:03 left, USA takes a tripping penalty, and it’s the first powerplay of the game…Canada is looking to tie it up. Binnington makes two shorthanded saves. One shot for Canada…no goals.

Canada ties it up with 6 minutes left… 2-2, on a great shot over Hellebuyck’s shoulder by Sam Bennett…shots 18 to 17 in favor of the USA.

The period ends 2-2…shots on goal also tied at 19.

Period 3…

Three minutes in Binnington makes a breakaway save off a backhander that developed on a bad change by Canada.

10 minutes to go in the 3rd…we are tied at 2…shots 23 to 21 in favor of USA…

Parayko stepped into one with 7 minutes left off a feed from Brad Marchand…Hellebuyck a blocker save.

5 minutes left in the 3rd…USA continues to have the edge in shots 25 to 22…still 2-2.

And we go to sudden death OVERTIME…5-on-5 until a goal is scored… 20-minute periods…tied at 2. Shots USA – 27…Canada – 23.

Overtime…next goal wins!

Binnington with a point-blank save on Austin Matthews just three minutes in…a blocker save…WOW! And again…Jordan with two more amazing saves at 4:30 in…pad and glove…then off the face-off, another glove save…31 saves.

Connor McDavid off a faceoff win in the USA ends off a pass from Mitch Marner to the slot and a wrister by McDavid beats Hellebuyck to the glove side. 3 to 2 Canada scoring on their 27th shot…The USA finished with 33.

Binnington kept Canada alive and gave them a chance…amazing in overtime! 20 saves in a row after the last goal by the USA!
