The St. Louis Blues are built on grit and angst, while pushing determined pressure on the opposition until victory is achieved. Aside from a select few players, this roster is not really built for that.Â
Nathan Walker and Alexey Toropchenko are really the catalysts for an "enforcer"-type game, but even they do not measure up to some of the heavyweights of the National Hockey League. It might not be a top priority, but they may need to find someone to fill that role this summer.Â
Enter a fan-favorite of the New York Rangers, who is still under contract for the 2026-27 season, but all signs are pointing toward him not being a Blueshirt on opening night. He is one of the roughest and toughest guys in the league, and he would fit in with this franchise perfectly.Â
Go get Matt Rempe
One of Alexander Steen's first moves as the General Manager of this franchise is to strike a deal with Rangers General Manager and President of Hockey Operations, Chris Drury. Both former players who duked it out for years are now fighting in suits and ties.Â
The Blues can use a player like Rempe, even if Rempe is not the same kind of player that he once was. His thumb is hindering him from fighting, but he is still a 6-foot-7, 255-pound freight train that could seriously bolster the fourth line. Pushing Walker, Toropchenko, and Rempe on that line could spark a serious amount of offense and leave the other team gingerly skating back to the bench.Â
Rempe's time in New York is coming to an end, and the Rangers could use some help in the draft. Luckily, the Blues have 12 picks to hand out, and a lot in the back-half of the selection process. Rempe could easily be swayed away for a fifth-round pick, which the Blues have two of, thanks to the Pittsburgh Penguins.Â
