The St. Louis Blues did not use any of their four first-round picks yet. They used the 11th pick to select center Tynan Lawrence. The youth movement gets another fantastic addition as the next era is ushered in.

Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong is choreographing his last draft as the headman and is not pulling any punches. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that Lawrence is going to be a stud, and the Blues might have nailed this one.

Lawrence bolsters middle of the lineup

Lawrence had a fantastic season with Boston University, as well as playing in the USHL with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. In 18 games with the Terriers, he had two goals and five assists for seven points. As a left-handed shot, he will be a key centerman who can learn under Steve Ott in Springfield and then onto the NHL game.

This pick comes off the heels of adding center Connor McMichael in the Jordan Kyrou trade with Washington. With Dalibor Dvorsky being another key part of the Blues' future, and Robert Thomas still sitting at the top-line center spot, the future is secure down the middle. That makes filling out the rest of the lineup much easier for head coach Jim Montgomery.

With three more picks to go in the first round, it will be interesting to see if Armstrong goes with a defenseman with either the 15th or 16th pick. Getting the center help out of the way paints a bit of a clearer picture for the rest of the first round.

What a solid pick to get the night started.
