The St. Louis Blues have a big problem on their hands, and there is a drastic measure that must be taken to correct it. Goaltender Jordan Binnington has become a liability for this franchise, as much as it pains us to say.

Enough is enough.

This most recent loss against the Tampa Bay Lightning was another stinker added to his 2025-26 portfolio. Sure, some of the goals could be due to a lack of defense, but there is no excuse for the overall play. His game is weak right now, and the Blues are still within reach of a playoff spot.

Let's talk about it.

Big change has to come after this

Binnington now holds a record of 7-9-6, with a save percentage of .870 and a Goals Against Average of 3.44. Over his last six starts, he is 1-4-1, allowing 22 goals on 131 shots against. This is a different shade of his play, and at this point there has to be no "glass-half-full" thinking.

Head coach Jim Montgomery and General Manager Doug Armstrong have to come to a decision that the Blues fan base will not be happy with at first. Trading Binnington is the most extreme option, but it would help this franchise in more ways than one.

Binnington must be traded

The Blues have a lot more areas of concern than the goaltending. Back up Joel Hofer has not been all that great either, but he has shown an ability to accept Binnington's torch as the next starter. The defensive unit needs a lot of help, and with Philip Broberg as the best on the blueline, they need to match him up with another up-and-comer.

Additionally, the offense has some new bright marks with Jonatan Berggren and Otto Stenberg, but they might need to look at nuking their core group. Jordan Kyrou, Dylan Holloway, and Jimmy Snuggerud have been injured for quite some time, but Brayden Schenn and Pavel Buchnevich have not been able to step up in their absence.

Binnington's value could help fix those issues. Hofer can take the mantle, and this Blues team goes full rebuild. Like it should have been doing this season, even though they squeaked into the playoffs last season.
