The St. Louis Blues got their road trip started with a 3-2 overtime loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was a wild one, with an own goal and the Blues putting up much more of an effort in the second half then they did in the first. Let's go over it with some insight, and also take a look at around the NHL.

Blues Brief

  • The Blues found themselves in a 1-1 game in the second period, after being outshot 10-4 in the first period. The second and third periods were much better, with the Blues leading the shot count 25-18 before ending the game with an even tie in shots on goal at 29.
  • Dvorsky found the back of the net, and once again, it was on the power play. With his time in the NHL potentially coming to an end with the return of Jake Neighbours, he has to make the most of this opportunity.
  • It was Justin Faulk's 1000th career game, which was celebrated in the locker room before the game with t-shirts and name plaques. Against Toronto, he had two shots and three blocks in 21:57 of ice time.
  • The Blues now advance to 6-9-5 for 17 points, which is still at the bottom of the Central Division, but one point ahead of the Nashville Predators. Two points would have been great, but gaining a point does not hurt either.
  • William Nylander had himself a heck of a night. After scoring an own goal to start the scoring, credited to Nathan Walker of the Blues, he ended the night with a highlight reel goal. He extends his point streak to 14 games.

NHL Brief

  • The Dallas Stars, the Blues Central Division rival, got back their captain against the New York Islanders. Jamie Benn returned to the ice 48 days after suffering a collapsed lung in a preseason game. Despite all of the heated battles, it sure is nice to see No. 14, without a visor and all, back in action.
  • Speaking of that Stars and Islanders contest, did anyone catch how it ended. You decide, is this enough proof to call for goaltending interference, given the gravity of the score of the game and the amount of time on the clock? My vote, says that this is not goaltending interference, as the defender clearly pushed the offensive player into the crease area and onto his goaltender.
  • Let's go even further into the rabbit hole of weird goals. Chicago Blackhawks superstar Connor Bedard, who is absolutely killing it this season, was gifted this wonky goal against the Calgary Flames.
