It's no secret that the St. Louis Blues are suffering from a serious run of injuries: Nick Bjugstad is going to miss a few days, and all of Jordan Kyrou, Alexey Toropchenko, Nathan Walker, and Jimmy Snuggerud are on Injured Reserve and weeks away from returning. That's five forwards not suiting up for the Blues right now--but GM Doug Armstrong isn't sitting on his hands. Today, the Blues announced they're bringing back forward Robby Fabbri on a one-year, two-way contract.
Blues fans should already be quite familiar with Fabbri. He was drafted 21st overall by the Blues in 2014,and made his NHL debut in the 2015-16 season. He won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019, but was traded early in the COVID-shortened 2019-20 season to the Detroit Red Wings. In that first stint with the Blues, Fabbri played 164 games, registering 32 goals and 41 assists for 73 points.
Since that trade to the Red Wings, Fabbri played an additional four seasons in Detroit before joining the Anaheim Ducks last season. He started this season unsigned.
In 442 games over nine years in the NHL, Fabbri has amassed 106 goals and 110 assists, for 216 points. He's a player who's best served in a bottom-six role, but given the number of injuries the Blues are dealing with, expect him to play up the lineup. In fact, head coach Jim Montgomery's ready to put him on the ice immediately.
Jim Montgomery says Robby Fabbri will be going "right into the lineup." https://t.co/iDVqA9G2W5

The Blues are headed to Nashville tomorrow to face the Predators, so Fabbri's debut in St. Louis will have to wait until the team plays at home the next day, when the Blues welcome the Blackhawks. It should be a fun homecoming for Fabbri and fans alike.
