St. Louis Blues defenseman Justin Faulk will hit a milestone game on Tuesday night in Toronto. The Blues’ blueliner will suit up for his 1,000th NHL game. Faulk will join 412 other NHLers who’ve reached the vaunted millennium mark in games played.

More importantly, Faulk will become the 137th defenseman to reach the mark, making his achievement even more impressive. When talking to the media on Monday, Faulk made his feelings clear, stating:

“It’s a good experience. It’s fun for the team, it seems. I’m excited to share that experience.”

Faulk demonstrated his selfless side. Instead of hogging the spotlight for himself, he’s made the situation about the team.

Indeed, the Blues have had a rough start to the season. So, Faulk’s milestone is a bright spot in what has otherwise been a bleak stretch for the team.

Faulk summed up the journey by declaring:

“It’s hard, but it’s rewarding.”

The veteran blueliner’s comments underscore the toll playing 1,000 NHL games can take on an athlete. That’s why Faulk’s milestone is all the more impressive.

Faulk could become casualty of Blues’ shake-up

One of the recurring themes thus far has been Blues GM Doug Armstrong’s warnings about an impending shake-up. One of the names that has gotten significant attention is Faulk. Teams looking for defensive depth could target Faulk this season.

While there’s no guarantee that Faulk will be among the first to go, the thought is that the Blues are motivated to kickstart the club.

As insider Frank Servalli noted on the Big Show on November 14:

“They’ve made it super clear that they’d like to shake things up. I don’t think they’ve even found very many partners to do that.”

The thought here is that the market remains at a standstill. Contenders are looking to add but not subtract from key areas. Meanwhile, rebuilding teams are looking for futures, something that contenders may not be able to offer.

So, it seems that Faulk may remain with the Blues for the time being. But once the trade market breaks open, there could be a flurry of activity. It would be a stretch to imagine a contender taking a leap to land an experienced blueliner like Justin Faulk.

As for what the price tag could be on the veteran blueliner, that remains to be seen. It would all depend on how motivated another club would be to land Faulk this season.
