It was a great run while it lasted, but the possibility of seeing Milan Lucic suit up for the St. Louis Blues this season has ended. After terminating the contract of Alexandre Texier, the 37-year-old Lucic also found himself on that same outcome, with the Blues terminating his AHL tryout.
There was a lot of hope that Lucic could eventually get himself back to NHL-ready, with some conditioning and re-learning the game in Springfield and the AHL. But the enforcer was away from the game for too long, and his age has slowed him down considerably. Not to mention that there is simply no place for him in the lineup right now. In 5 games with Springfield, he only contributed a solo assist and was a minus-7 on the ice.
After 17 seasons, this might be the end of the road for Lucic. But, with how many enforcers are still needed in this game, perhaps a team like the New York Rangers, who are without heavy-hitter Matt Rempe for a little bit of time, could use No. 12 on their roster.
Having Lu in the 'Lou seemed like it was meant to be, but it never worked out.
