The St. Louis Blues have an easy day on the second day of the 2025 NHL Draft. With only two selections, one in the fifth round and one in the sixth round, the Blues faithful should be thankful for that. They used those picks on Mikhail Fyodorov and Love Harenstam.
Let's discuss why that was a great thing?
Broberg and Holloway
The Blues have such a large gap in picks because of the offer sheets for both Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway before last season. They have both proven to be well worth the investment as both players are crucial members of this organization. Broberg is a top-4 defenseman, with tremendous upside at 24-years-old. And Holloway bursted onto the scene in his debut season with the Blues and would have been a difference maker in the playoffs before going down with injury.
These two players made such a big impact in their first year, that now they are building blocks for the future of this franchise. If you want to talk about the Blues trying to win now, offer-sheeting both of those players turned them from a fringe playoff team to heavy favorites of making it into the. big dance again.
Of course, they could have used those middle-round picks to try and add some depth in areas that are lacking with the prospect pool. But, they would not be in the position they need to be in come next season.
They did great with their three picks
Even with only three picks in the 2025 NHL Draft, the Blues did a fantastic job with their selections. Justin Carbonneau is going to be a fantastic player once he matures and will fit in perfectly with the rough-and-tough Blues. Both of their later-round selections are still a bit of an unknown, as it usually is with late-round draft picks. But, do not count them out just yet, their careers are just getting started.
The Blues made the most out of a limited situation, and it has the potential to work out beautifully.
