It is officially July 1, meaning that the Free Agent frenzy is upon us and the entire landscape of the NHL is about to change. The St. Louis Blues are going to be looking for a few new additions to help catapult themselves from playoff hopefuls to Stanley Cup contenders.

Before any signings are officially made and/or any trades could be announced, one big thing happened to the Blues when the calendar turned over to July. Winger Jordan Kyrou is a blue for the duration of his contract.

The Blues had up until July 1 to make a decision on Kyrou, as he was a heavily sought after bargaining chip to help fill the holes in this current roster. But, General Manager Doug Armstrong decided it be best to keep him until his contract expires at the end of the 2030-31 season.

Fans should be happy with this decision

All in all, the Blues have plenty of opportunity to look for a solid second-line center and some help on the defensive side at the opening of Free Agency. There is one player in particular that will likely get an offer from the Blues when the floodgates open. All of that can be done in addition to keeping an up-and-coming superstar, that is developing right before our eyes.

There is a high ceiling for Kyrou, and from the looks of things, he is gonna punch right through it. He has proven his ability to score goals, a serious need from this roster, with three straight 30+ goal seasons. It is a matter of time until we start to see him get over that hump and reach for the higher goal plateaus.

Blues fans should be excited that Kyrou is remaining a Blue. He could very well be a player that spends his entire career rocking the blue-note. Not to mention, the most recent first-round draft pick, which the Blues organization has high expectations for, models his game after Kyrou. Justin Carbonneau could be a line-mate of Kyrou's in the future, on opposing wings.
