he St. Louis Blues are set to take on the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night. In the second of a back-to-back on the road, there was a big decision made pregame regarding the benching of one key player.

It seems like the Blues are going to be without Jordan Kyrou, as he will be a healthy scratch.

Why?

That’s the big question, isn’t it? What does this mean for the Blues and Kyrou? Is there something else brewing behind this decision? Is there anything more than a message being sent here?

Before we blow this out of proportion, look at what position the Blues are in. They were rocked 6-1 just under 24 hours ago, with very minimal offense to back up horrific defense and goaltending. A change of some kind had to be made, or else it would have looked even worse.

Choosing Kyrou makes sense, as the offense needs a wake-up call that no one is untouchable. Arguably, the case could have been made for Pavel Buchnevich, as he has been a much worse top-six forward this season than Kyrou. But, nonetheless, the benching is warranted with how this season has gone.

Now, the Blues are potentially going to go at it without their best goal-scorer over the last few seasons. Kyrou, funny enough, was labeled as a player to watch prior to this rumor spreading.

Head coach Jim Montgomery, who is looking at some similarities of his time in Boston, has now started going toward extremes to bring this franchise back from the dead.

Can the Blues use this as a much needed wake-up call, and try to secure two points without Kyrou? Or, if they cannot, what comes next for this team?
