The St. Louis Blues just announced a monumental signing for the 2026-27 season and beyond. Connor McMichael, who came to the team as the key return for Jordan Kyrou to Washington, signed a six-year deal.

Over the next few weeks, Arbitration was the next course of action, as McMichael's most recent two-year deal had just ended. Now, he is locked in with the Blues for $6.75 million AAV.

New core is locked and loaded

McMichael joins Mason McTavish as the newest member of the young core. The new era of Blues hockey is going to be focused on these players who are aged 25 and younger, and McMichael fits that description.

When training camp rolls around, McMichael is going to have a battle on his hands with McTavish, Dalibor Dvorksy, and Pius Suter for that second-line center spot. General Manager Alexander Steen has a solid team under him, and the future is bright with this young star joining them.

McMichael was fantastic last season, with a 46-point campaign in 78 games. He is going to get a much bigger role with the Blues, and with some fantastic wingers around him, or if he loses the center battle, there is a good chance that he will still get top-six minutes as a winger.

The most interesting part of this deal has yet to be revealed, as the no-trade clause has not been announced. Former General Manager Doug Armstrong got himself handcuffed because of that player-friendly advantage, and we saw with Broberg's deal that the NMC was moved toward the end of the contract. We will see if McMichael gets the same treatment.
