The St. Louis Blues still had a selection to be made in the third round, and it came at No. 75. In a shocking turn of events, just a little whil after fixing their big need in defensive help by grabbing Brandon Carlo from Toronto, they drafted a defenseman.
Enter Luke Schairer from the United States Development Program. He has been described as a shutdown defender. There have also been credits to his skating ability as well, as he shows some solid top-end speed.
Schairer is a right-handed shot, standing at a lengthy 6-foot-3, and nearing 200 pounds. General Manager is bulking up the blueline, and that is a great thing to see.
The Blues do not pick again until the 107th pick in the fourth round. They have two fourth-rounders to work with, so watch out for Armstrong to try to pull another move.
For now, this is a nice pick to bolster the pipeline of defensemen, as Adam Jiricek is expected to leave that pool next season by joining the big-league club. Schairer is committed to Boston University starting in 2027-28.
A little interesting fact about him is that his favorite hockey jersey is the Chicago Blackhawks, and that is going to be interesting when he first throws on the Blue note.
