The St. Louis Blues released the schedule and the roster for training camp, which begins next week on Thursday, September 18. Camp sessions will be held at Centene Community Ice Center, and all practices are free and open to the public. The schedule for the first three days of camp is available and caps off with a game against the Dallas Stars on Sunday.

The Blues roster will start with 58 players--that's more than double the 23-man roster they'll need to submit for the start of the season. Granted, many of the participants are prospects that will be loaned back to their respective teams in the CHL, Sweden, Finland, and the like when all is said and done. There will be plenty of AHL players as well, trying to stand out to make the Blues' main roster, though most will find themselves back with the Springfield Thunderbirds. There is also one player on a professional tryout contract--Milan Lucic--who's trying to earn a job at either level.

Speaking of Lucic, he's one of the major storylines to watch in this camp

At 37 years old, he's certainly in the twilight of his career, and maybe not even an NHL-caliber player at this point. The last team he played for was Jim Montgomery's Boston Bruins in 2023-24, where his tenure met an ignominious end after he was charged with assault by his wife and Lucic entered the NHL Player Assistance Program. If Lucic can still play, it could spell the end for a currently rostered player; if he can't, the Blues can cut him without issue.

Another story to watch is the recently drafted Justin Carbonneau, who has made clear since joining the organization that he has every intention of trying to make the NHL roster out of camp. The most likely outcome is Carbonneau being loaned back to his CHL team, but a gangbusters camp where he outplays roster veterans could get him a few games in the NHL.

Dalibor Dvorsky, though older than Carbonneau, will also be giving his all to make the NHL roster out of camp. With off season signings Nick Bjugstad and Pius Suter, Dvorsky doesn't have to make the roster--but a lengthy NHL stint after a successful rookie season with the Thunderbirds would be a sign of good things to come for the young player. Dvorsky was drafted as a center but, given the Blues' center depth, he could spent quite a bit of time on the wing in a top-nine role.

Hockey season is nearly here, and it'll be nice to see everyone back in a Blues sweater--especially some prospects for the first time.
