Doug Armstrong went out and added a young right-handed defenseman on Tuesday, and he could be looking to land a left-handed blueliner as well.

The St. Louis Blues are among teams still in trade conversations for Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram, according to a report by TSN's Darren Dreger.

Dreger also noted that an offer sheet is being considered, but the Blues do not have the second-round pick that would be required to sign Byram to one.

Byram was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche with the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. He spent the first three-plus seasons in Colorado before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres at the 2024 trade deadline. He played in all 82 games for the Sabres last season, putting up career highs with 31 assists and 38 points while playing 22:42 per game.

The 24-year-old defenseman could give the Blues another young blueliner on the left side. Nick Leddy (34 years old) or Cam Fowler (33) -- possibly both -- will likely be on their way out after next season. Adding Byram would give the Blues a young option on the left side if the price is right.

The Blues still have $8.3 million in cap space to work with this summer, with 13 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 2 goalies under contract. Byram is projected by CapWages to sign either a short-term deal just above $5 million or a longer-term pact north of $7 million.
