The St. Louis Blues’ top center, Robert Thomas enters the 2026-27 season as one of the clubs most productive players and continues to climb the franchises record books. The 27-year-old center has quietly turned into one of the most efficient playmakers in Blues history, and the coming season will set up as the year he starts to pass some of the most noteworthy names on the franchise’s leaderboard.
Thomas has played 530 games in the NHL, all with the St. Louis, and he’s put together 132 goals and 328 assists for 460 points with a plus-68 rating along the way. The Blues drafted him 20th overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, and was still a teenager when he lifted the Stanley Cup in 2019. Since then, he has developed into the club’s top line center and arguably one of the most underrated center’s in the NHL. The last few seasons have been among Thomas’ best gathering 60 assists in both 2023-24 and 2024-25, then 64 points in just 64 games last season despite missing time.
Passing Brian Sutter for fourth all-time in assists
Thomas sits fifth on the Blues’ all-time assists list with 328, only six away from Brian Sutter’s 333. Given that he’s cleared the 50 assist in a single season on multiple occasions, this shouldn’t take too long. Realistically, a few games into the season and he will be sitting fourth all-time in assists in franchise history.
Catching Pietrangelo for third all-time in assists
Once he passes Sutter, the next target is former Blues team captain Alex Pietrangelo at 341 assists, only 14 more from where Thomas sits today. That feat seems reasonable for him to accomplish very early into the season. Once he reaches that, Thomas will move into sole possession of third place in Blues history, at 27-years-old, trailing only Bernie Federko (721) and Bret Hull (409), both of which are far enough away that it seems a lofty goal to at least be in possession of second all-time. Regardless, third all-time by the end of the season is well within reach of a player who has been the Blues’ primary puck-mover for the better part of a decade.
Cracking the top-six in career points
The points chase this season is another milestone to keep an eye on. Thomas is sitting at 460 points right now and adding 37 more would mean passing Blues General Manager Alexander Steen (496), Pavol Demitra (493), David (465) and Brayden Schenn (460). That number is comfortably inside his range with the young center surpassing 60 points in four of his last five seasons. Cracking into the top-five will take some additional time, however. With Federko, Hull, Sutter, Gary Unger, and Vladimir Tarasenko all listed ahead of him, there is still plenty of work to do.

With his elite vision, reliability on the dot, and in all areas of the game, the Blues center continues to show his value to the Blues and the league. For Blues fans, the 2026-27 season is a good excuse to pay closer attention to the record book as Thomas is about to start climbing the rankings and put himself among the franchise best.
