The St. Louis Blues are coming off two much-needed wins against Calgary this week. They currently sit one point behind the Flames and tied with Vancouver in the wild card standings. These were two wins that they needed to have, or they could've kissed the playoffs goodbye.
Now that they've gotten back into the race, they have an opportunity to go on a bit of a run and put a cushion between them and the teams behind them. The sense seems to be that Saturday's game in Utah might be as important as the two Calgary games.
The whole view of the St. Louis Blues could change with a win Saturday
The whole view of the Blues around the league has been that they are about as average as a hockey team can get. They haven't won three games in a row all season and have been hovering around .500 pretty much since the coaching change.
Enterprise Center was rocking last night, and it felt like a different atmosphere than other games this season. But it is ultimately up to the players to get this going, and it has to start tomorrow night with a win in Utah. The two wins against the Flames were great, but there is a lot more work to be done.
There is no greater motivation for the Blues than to play Utah
The Blues are five points up on Utah. If they win tomorrow night, it would be very difficult to see a path for the Hockey Club to catch up to St. Louis. The Blues need to jump on Utah early and make the statement that they are the better team.
I think St. Louis is in a good spot going into tomorrow's game. Going up 3-0 in the first period was a great leap for this team.
