The St. Louis Blues are heading back to the Stanley Cup playoffs for the 46th time in their 57 history. That is still an absolutely incredible statistic. This season has been a roller coaster ride, but thankfully, it is over and we are into a playoff matchup with the Presidents' Trophy winning rows =s=kkkk
Speaking of statistics, did you know that legendary Blues forward Brett Hull has the most points scored in a single season, with 131 in 1990-91? In today's game, that does not seem impossible. But for someone wearing the Blue Note on their chest, it has been nearly impossible to reach.
Since Pevol Demitra had 93 points in 2002-03, which was the highest mark since the century started, the next highest on the single season points leader list is Robert Thomas with 86 points last season. That's it. Who will be the next one to do it? Can it be broken?
Who can do it and can it be broken next season?
As mentioned earlier, Thomas is the best candidate to break Hull's record on the current Blues roster. However, his career-high of 86 points is 45 points behind Hull's 131 points. There is a long chance that Thomas can do it, but there is undoubtedly an opportunity with the players he is playing around.
Hull's 131-point season consisted of 86 goals and 45 assists. Thomas, as great a goal-scorer as he is, is very unlikely to hit that number of goals. His career high through seven seasons is 26 goals, but he definitely can facilitate the puck by hitting back-to-back 60-assist seasons.
Thomas has been a superstar for the Blues, especially this season. Over the last two months, he has been one of the best players in all of hockey. Nobody was on the same level as him, and he was a direct link to the unbelievable 12-game win streak that pushed them into the playoffs. None of that happened without Thomas.
Is it possible? Yes, but it's improbable. You should not count out Thomas breaking Hull's points record for a single season. But with this current roster, he is the only one with a chance.
