This is the inaugural post on what potential prospects that the St. Louis Blues could take with their two first-round draft picks. Over the coming weeks, we will be dissecting some of the top prospects in the world, and why they would be a good fit.
Starting with defenseman Chase Reid, the Chesterfield, Michigan product that has taken the world by storm with his electrifying play in the Ontario Hockey League. Let's give him a bit of a profile, explain what makes him so special and what the chances are of him falling to the Blues.
Profile
Reid made the jump from the NAHL to the OHL in 2024-25, signing on with the Soo Greyhounds and immediately making an impact. Over the past two seasons, he has been promoted to being an Alternate Captain, and was a major player in the Soo.
In 45 games during the 2025-26 season, Reid showed off his much-talked about offensive game with 18 goals and 30 assists for 48 points. For defenseman, that goal tally ranked him at fifth in the entire league.
Reid also represented his country in the World Juniors this past season, contributing two goals and two assists for four points in the five games played.
Likelihood of coming to the Blues
This is going to be a very hard get for General Manager Doug Armstrong. Reid is projected to be a top-five selection and teams like San Jose, the New York Rangers and Vancouver are all looking at a defenseman like this.
Reid can be a generational talent, and teams will not pass him by.
What they can bring if selected by the Blues
If the hockey gods are in their favor, the Blues could get the steal of a lifetime in Reid with the 11th pick. The defensive unit is still very raw and unproven, with only Philip Broberg playing any bit positive last season.
Colton Parayko took a major step back, Cam Fowler looked like he did in Anaheim, and Logan Mailloux had the worst case of growing pains in recent memory. Reid could come in to the Blues organization with it being a little more put together. Pending the emergence of fellow OHL prospect Adam Jiricek, who is likely making his Blues debut in 2026-27.
Reid is a perfect fit for the Blues, but it is highly unlikely that he drops all the way to their first of two picks.
