We've been taking a look back at the St. Louis Blues run to their 2019 Stanley Cup championship, and those playoffs are still the last time that head coach Craig Berube has won a Game 7.
In fact, Berube coached the Blues to not one but two victories in winner-take-all Game 7s during the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Of course, everyone remembers the Game 7 victory over the Boston Bruins to win the Stanley Cup, but the Blues also erased a 3-2 series deficit to beat the Dallas Stars in the second round.
Berube had a chance to add a third Game 7 victory to his record on Sunday night in Toronto. After getting past the Ottawa Senators in the first round, the Maple Leafs had home-ice advantage against the Florida Panthers in the second round.
The Leafs got out to a hot start with victories on home ice in Games 1 and 2, and held a 3-1 lead in Game 3. However, the Panthers won three straight contests before the Leafs finally got back in the win column in Game 6 to force the Game 7 on Sunday night.
Berube and the Toronto faithful went home in the win-or-go-home contest, though, and it wasn't particularly close with the Panthers winning by a final score of 6-1. It was the Leafs' second straight 6-1 defeat on home ice.
So, with that, the St. Louis Blues are the only team that Berube has won a Game 7 with as a coach, with the last one being the Stanley Cup clincher in 2019. He is now 2-2 in Game 7s after losing with the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs in his first year as a head coach in the NHL.
