The St. Louis Blues fell off the wagon again against the San Jose Sharks, losing in overtime 3-2. Now at 1-2-1 through four games, they are in a bit of a bind at the start of the 2026-27 season.

The first line continues to struggle, the second line is leading the way, but there is a diamond in the rough forming on that third line. In fact, one player of that trio has been thought of as a breakout star, and it is happening right in front of our eyes.

Dalibor Dvorsky is that player, and Blues fans should be excited about how much he has grown from last season. Let’s talk about it.

Breakout year in progress

This season has shown a smarter side of Dvorsky. According to NHL EDGE, he has skated far less on average per game, from 3.14 miles per game last season to just 2.32 miles per game in 2026-27. He is being smarter with his strides and putting himself in a better position on the ice without having to constantly move all over the place.

This has also helped with both of the goals he has scored this season. Both came in a similar fashion, as the newly printed No. 15 was able to find himself in the right place at the right time. He did not have to do much, much like a spot-up shooter in the NBA, who just waited for the perfect opportunity to throw a shot on net to score.

With those two goals, Dvorsky is on his way to a breakout campaign. Last season was his first full go-around the NHL, and he scored nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points. He should be able to crush those numbers in 2026-27, if he can stay healthy.

Importance going forward?

With the first line not getting themselves in order yet, the bottom nine forwards have really been pitching in. We saw how Mason McTavish has been so far, alongside Connor McMichael. Not to mention the emergence of Dillon Dube on the fourth line.

Dvorsky is making it happen on line three, as the revolving door is starting to turn with Pavel Buchnevich on his right now, alongside a struggling Jake Neighbours. He is going to be incredibly important going forward, as the Blues are struggling to find much offense.

Dvorsky might be a diamond in the rough for this franchise, and he is just getting started.
