Despite the St. Louis Blues having a bit of a rocky start to the 2026/27 season, one of their top-line guys is already making his presence known while helping the rest of his linemates break the team's slump, with a trip to Ottawa tomorrow night. 25-year-old Dylan Holloway has logged 12 hits across the first five games of the season, and he should be due for much more as the Blues start a three game road trip to Ottawa, Minnesota, and Nashville through the 17th before returning home to Enterprise Center on October 20 for their 3rd straight Central Division clash against Winnipeg.
Dylan Holloway impressive early
Holloway is looking to add a 3rd consecutive 20+ goal season, the last two of which have come during his time with St. Louis after he was dealt from Edmonton following the 2023-24 season, where his offensive output was far less. Since the change of scenery (probably good for someone born in Calgary playing in Edmonton), Holloway has played 141 games with St. Louis, totaling 48 goals and 69 assists for 117 points in his three year tenure. By comparison, his two-year stint in Edmonton to start his 5-year NHL career so far topped out at 89 games played, scoring just 9 goals and 9 assists for 18 points. Holloway's plus-minus rating in St. Louis has also been much better, registering a +30 compared with his career mark of -1 in Edmonton. Now there's one thing missing so far this season: goals.
The other night, Holloway provided some prime assistance, logging an assist on three of the five goals St. Louis scored against the Blue Jackets to help snap a 3-game skid the Blues were riding. Holloway didn't find the back of the net himself, but still picking up 3 points on the night was pretty nice. The 25-year-old does skate on the same top offensive line as his fellow young stars in Robert Thomas and Jimmy Snuggerud, and it's definitely worth assuming he might get his first goal or goals of the season sometime soon. Just a pair would give Holloway 50 career goals with the Blues, a big milestone for someone with a lot of time in St. Louis left. He signed a massive 5-year, $38.75 million contract this summer, which will keep him in St. Louis til at least the 2030-31 season, locking him in like the Blues' other core players.
Early review of the Blues' top offensive line
The line that Holloway is on, along with Thomas and Snuggerud, has been hot to start this season, despite the Blues' overall record of 2-2-1. The Thomas-Snuggerud-Holloway line in question has a phenomenal goal-scoring percentage already, sitting at 63.2%. Now, the Blues themselves are 22nd in the league as of right now in goals per game, getting about three in each contest, but keep in mind they had a total of five goals so far before that offensive explosion against Columbus this past Saturday. They should steadily work their way up the leaderboard as more games progress, like the first 10-15 contests. And it starts tomorrow night in Ottawa, kickstarting that aforementioned three-game road trip.
Going back to Holloway in particular, it's a bit of a wonder why he hasn't quite found the back of the net yet this season, given he's been pretty aggressive, logging a solid 9 shots on goal in just the first five games. That means Holloway's testing goaltenders early, and that's pretty good, since it also takes some pressure off the Blues' own goaltending, which is at the very least partially to blame for the slow offensive start to this season. But in any case, look for the Blues to maybe get a little hot streak right after a rough streak, featuring more of a goal-scoring ability and physical prowess as the first month of the season continues, particularly with some new blood.
