The St. Louis Blues battled through a lot of adversity this season to even make the Stanley Cup Playoffs, let alone push the top-seeded Winnipeg Jets to seven games in the first round.

Some of that adversity came late in the season with an injury to Dylan Holloway. The nature of Holloway's injury was never revealed, but he left his final game on April 3 after taking a hit from Pittsburgh Penguins rookie Rutger McGroarty.

Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said on Tuesday that Holloway underwent surgery for his undisclosed injury and the forward is expected to be back for the start of next season.

"We didn't think it was going to be as serious as it was, and he needed to get some work done," he said. "But he'll be 100 percent for training camp."

Holloway played in all 77 games he was healthy for prior to that injury, and he was one of St. Louis' top forwards. He trailed only Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou with 63 points (26 goals, 37 assists) on the year.

The forward signed an offer sheet with the Blues last summer, along with defenseman Philip Broberg, both of the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers were in a salary cap crunch and elected to take the compensation from the offer sheets for their youngsters.

The 2020 first-round selection was never truly given a chance in Edmonton. He played 89 games over the course of two seasons, but only averaged 10:21 per game. He had 18 points (9 goals, 9 assists) in 89 games and obviously blew past those numbers in St. Louis.

Holloway is expected to be a big part of the Blues in the coming seasons. He's showing why he was the 14th overall pick in his draft year, and he should only continue to get better as he develops in the next few years.
