With Alexey Toropchenko, Nick Bjugstad, Jordan Kyrou, and Jimmy Snuggerud all on the injured list, they have been trying to fill the gaps, and now they might have someone else joining their roster.
On Sunday, Lou Korac posted a photo of Blues forward Dylan Holloway is being helped off the ice without any pressure on his leg. Holloway is currently listed as having a lower-body injury, but no specific details have been released. While this gives hope for Monday's game against the Predators, who crushed the Blues 7-2, his inability to put any pressure on his leg is concerning, to say the least.
So, who is to step in?
Recently, left-handed shooter Aleksanteri Kaskimaki was called up to help the already injury-plagued team. Kaskimaki has shown promise in the AHL so far, with four goals and three assists in 17 games. However, his success did not carry over to the NHL. After playing just five games, he was minus six and couldn't demonstrate his scoring ability. Aleksanteri Kaskimaki might be an option, but he needs more time in the AHL.
Another option could be the Blues' newly acquired Akil Thomas. In 25 games last season, he scored 1 goal and two assists, while recording a minus-4. Having already had NHL experience, the Blues may be relying on a more experienced player. This would be the perfect opportunity for Thomas to raise his stock.
Immediately after Lou Korac posted the unfortunate photo, Alexey Toropchenko was skating and appeared ready to return. This would be significant news for the team and could give them the boost they need to turn things around. When paired with Oskar Sundqvist, the two bring a physical element to the team, and Toropchenko's speed helps generate chances through the middle of the ice.
Either way, the Blues continue to struggle with injuries, but they have options. Whether it's a younger player rising to the occasion or a player returning from injury, the Blues must find a way to push past the barriers.
