Elliotte Friedman speculates on Blues terminating this player's contract

It could be the end of the line for this St. Louis Blue.

It's no secret that the St. Louis Blues have been a disappointment. On top of that, the roster's various contract situations make it difficult to tinker with the lineup and add new blood. Now, with Jake Neighbours returning, there are too many forwards as well.

That means that Alexandre Texier is the odd man out, and has been waived by the Blues--and if he goes unclaimed, as NHL insider Elliotte Friedman speculates, Texier could see his contract terminated.

Texier, already named to Team France's lineup for the Milan Olympics in 2026, has been a fine player for the Blues. Over two seasons, he's played 39 games in the Blue Note sweater, registering six goals, six assists, and 12 points while averaging 12:02 per night.

Unfortunately for Texier, it's become a bit of a numbers game, and he's the odd one out. It doesn't help that his $2.1 million Annual Average Value (AAV) contract is something of an albatross; not a large one, mind you, but a in-and-out of the lineup bottom-six forward is certainly not worth that sort of money.

Waiving Texier is a good sign for Dalibor Dvorsky, though: it means he's impressing management and the coaching staff to earn more time at the NHL level, instead of being sent back to the AHL. The Blues likely won't lose sleep if Texier's claimed (there's a chance they could terminate him, after all), but the "easy" thing to do to clear a roster spot for Neighbours's return would be to return Dvorsky to the minors, as he's waivers exempt. Instead, the Blues have chosen Texier.

Perhaps Texier just plays for the Springfield Thunderbirds for a while, and is called back up if there's an injury. However, if this is the end of the line for Texier in St. Louis, we wish him the best.
