Wild Card 2

The most likely opponent here will be the Winnipeg Jets. They are the likely winners of the Presidents' Trophy this season, as they have a marginal lead in the standings. If the season ended today, obviously the Blues have yet to make it into the playoffs just yet as the second wildcard team, but if they were, the Jets would be their opponent in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

These two franchises have met three times so far this season, with one more meeting to go on April 7. In the three games, the teams have split the series at a game apiece in regulation, and then the Blues were able to gain the overtime point in the last game. The goal differential is nine to eight goals, in favor for the Blues.

This is a tough matchup, as the Jets are heavily favored to win the Stanley Cup this season. But, who doesn't love a Cinderella story?

Wild Card 1

If the Blues go on a bit of a run and blow past the Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, and Minnesota Wild to take the first wild card spot, things get very interesting. Their opponent now is the Vegas Golden Knights. At the moment, the Blues and Golden Knights have met three times this season. Vegas has the upper hand, winning two of the three games with a 12-10 goal differential.

This is going to be a much less likely scenario, as the Blues are currently nine points out from that spot to catch the Wild. Not impossible, but improbable. This would also be a much worse match-up for the Blues, as they struggled mightily against the Golden Knights this season, as opposed to the Jets.

This would make for a very entertaining match-up, but very unlikely. In terms of whether or not the Blues could pull off the upset, that is also very unlikely. The Golden Knights got back a key playoff perfromaer at the trade deadline in Reilly Smith from the New York Rangers, and that gives them another boost. The Blues, following a cautious tactic at the deadline, did not get any better to compete against this new look Vegas team.
