St. Louis has been a part of sports history since the 1880s with the St. Louis Browns, who then turned to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1900. It was not until 1967 that the St. Louis Blues entered the National Hockey League as an expansion team.

There was also the St. Louis Cardinals, but the NFL version. From 1960-1987, they were a part of the National Football League before moving to Arizona. In 1995, the Los Angeles Rams moved to St. Louis until the 2015 season, before moving back to LA.

A lot has happened to this city in terms of pledging allegiance to a sports team and rooting for their home team. But the Cardinals and Blues have stayed strong, continuing to establish this wonderful city as a sports town.

Blues and Cardinals staying put

The 11 championships on the baseball diamond and the 2019 hoisting of the Stanley Cup electrified the city of St. Louis. Fans have held onto their fandom of both franchises in their respective sports and never let them go. Even with all of the change from arguably the biggest sport in the United States of America, Cardinals and Blues fans' devotion is undying.

Both of those franchises are there for good, with no possibility of relocating. They are the lifeblood of the sports scene there.

Loss of the NFL, twice, helped?

Losing not only one but two football teams might have been a blessing in disguise for the city. It made them appreciate what they have, and what they will continue to have for generations to come.

The St. Louis Rams were a highly successful football team, taking home a Lombardi Trophy and narrowly winning another one in their brief 20-year tenure. But it is clear that this city can continue to thrive without it. Not to mention, there is a very good football team just 250 miles west in the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Blues have such a great following because once the summer and baseball come to a halt, it is all Hockey, all the time. These fans live and breathe for this organization, and that has been passed down through the generations.
