The St. Louis Blues were unable to defeat the New Jersey Devils in the first of a back-to-back, 3-1. It was a valiant effort, but not enough. Obviously, a key piece was missing, and now it seems that this key player might not be a Blue come Friday's Trade Deadline.
Robert Thomas has not been in the lineup since the 2025-26 season restarted, due to personal reasons. Sportsnet Insider Elliotte Friedman revealed a new buyer for Thomas, outside of Detroit or Los Angeles, and that there is a "decent chance" that he will be moved by the deadline.
Per @FriedgeHNIC there’s a decent chance Robert Thomas is traded by Friday’s deadline. 👀

Let the floodgates open
This anticipated move was obviously going to happen. The more teams that entered the sweepstakes for Thomas, the messier it was getting in terms of who was in and who was out, but there was more and more interest. Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong has been taking a lot of calls on No. 18, and it seems like the floodgates have officially opened.
If Thomas is likely to be moved by the deadline, which is six days away, there is a very good chance that he has played his last game in St. Louis. Armstrong is not going to risk his most valuable trade piece in pointless games.
Another loss to the Devils tonight pushes the Blues further behind in the wildcard race, and the light has just about been snuffed out.
Will Armstrong get it done?
If there are growing rumors, and Friedman went on air to speak on this rumor, there is a very good chance that there is more than smoke. The fans are starting to be fanned, and this deal will get done.
If Utah is the team that grabs him, which would be a crazy one to think about, as Thomas would remain in the Central Division. There is no logical reason for Armstrong to make this deal, unless the Mammoth has honored the king's ransom that has been reported to land the 28-year-old center. Plus, let us not forget that Thomas has to waive his No-Trade Clause, and Utah might be where he wants to go.
