There is a case to be made that there is one specific player that can be held accountable as the single worst performer in 2025-26. The St. Louis Blues had a rough season, but there is still one overwhelming culprit as to why it was such a bad year.
You could say it was goaltender Jordan Binnington, or winger Pavel Buchnevich. Both defensemen Colton Parayko and Cam Fowler are not shy to that sentiment either.
But there is someone who did much worse for this franchise in 2025-26 than those players. The worst performance of the season goes to Jordan Kyrou, and here is why.
Kyrou failed every expectation
If you wanna talk about taking steps back, or undertaking a serious drop in production, look no further than No. 25. After a successful 2024-25, in which Kyrou had a career-high in even-strength goals with 29 and 36 as a toal on the year, he was abysmal this past season.
His final stat line shows 18 goals, 28 assists for 46 points in 72 games. Oh boy.
Kyrou was given a chance to succeed this past season, thus his expectations being new career-highs in offensive prodcution. Instead, head coach Jim Montgomery had to instill a little bit of fear into him with a healthy scratch in the middle of the season.
How can you bench a player that put up 36 goals for you the season before? Well, when that player is not performing, drastic measures have to be taken. And they were, and for a little while, Kyrou used that as some fire.
But, that fire was quickly put out, and the underwhelming season continued.
Primed for a comeback
But not all hope is lost here. Kyrou, who endured his usual battering of trade deadline rumors and movement away from the Blues drama, is going to be on this team for a long time. Thus, there is no reason to doubt that he can execute a solid comeback in 2026-27.
Not to mention, Kyrou had to endure a knee injury for an undisclosed amount of time. He had surgery when the season ended, and will be ready to go for camp at the end of the summer.
The Blues are going to be a much younger and greener team this upcoming October. Players like Kyrou, Robert Thomas, and Pavel Buchnevich are going to be heavily relied upon with the younger forward group.
This is where Kyrou can make his comeback, as a leader and beig able to show out for the younger players. This past season's dark mark could be just that, and next season could be his best yet.
