The time for the annual tradition that is Jordan Binnington trade rumor season is officially underway.

Insider Frank Seravalli published his summer trade board with the St. Louis Blues’ veteran netminder landing in the fourth spot.

The placement isn’t surprising since Binnington will be entering the final year of his current six-year contract in 2026-27. Unless the Blues envision a future with the 2019 Stanley Cup winner, it’s more than likely that a trade does happen this summer or heading into the season.

That said, another notable insider, David Pagnotta, even went as far as to suggest a potential destination. That destination could be the Florida Panthers.

The rationale behind Pagnotta’s assessment hinges on the Panthers being unable to re-sign Sergei Bobrovsky this offseason. To be clear, the bulk of the chatter points towards the Panthers and Bobrovsky working something out.

But there’s also talk that Bobrovsky wants to get paid. He isn’t offering Florida a hometown discount, making a new contract a potentially complex situation. If the Panthers feel they can’t land Bobrovsky, they could well pivot to the Blues and Binnington.

Blues could find surprisingly broad market for Jordan Binnington

The Florida Panthers wouldn’t be the only team that could kick the tires on Jordan Binnington. In fact, the Blues could find a surprisingly broad market for the veteran netminder.

Several teams could be in the market for a new goalie this offseason. The Buffalo Sabres could be looking for a playoff-tested netminder. Their second-round elimination this postseason could spur the team to explore other options.

The Carolina Hurricanes, who see themselves as Stanley Cup contenders, face a bit of an uncertain situation. Frederik Anderson is 35 and will be a UFA this summer. Brandon Bussi was a great story this season, but might not be the solution the team is looking for long term.

The Utah Mammoth might be another team looking for a battle-hardened goalie, with the perennial goaltending seekers, the Edmonton Oilers, trying to do whatever they can to shore up the position.

All told, Alex Steen may have various offers on the table. The best time for a deal to happen would be leading up to the 2026 NHL Draft. If no deal materializes by then, a Jordan Binnington trade might drag on into the beginning of next season.
