The St. Louis Blues made some moves at tthe trade deadline back in March that completely changed the trajectory of their season. Deemed as "sellers, they shopped and moved both defenseman Justin Faulk and captain Brayden Schenn, and are now within a few wins and a good bit of help of an apparence in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Schenn trade has been highlighted here as it seems like the Blues might have already won the trade. Let's go over it.
He has been good for the Isles, but they are sliding out of the playoffs
Schenn has played adequately for the New York Islanders, but his team seems to be sliding out of the playoff race. Since joining the team, No. 10 has played 15 games and has five goals and five assists for 10 points. Not a bad rap, especially when you throw in the 30 hits he has as well.
But, his +/- continues to tank, as he is a -6 with the Islanders, following his -23 with the Blues this season, to give him a total of -29. It doesn't seem like he is all that much of a detriment on the ice, but bad luck has seemed to find Schenn throughout this 2025-26 season.
The Islanders record since acquiring Schenn is another interesting plot point, as they were once in a prominent playoff postition when they got him. In the 15 games, the Islanders have a record of 7-8, and are now sitting three points behind Ottawa for the second wildcard spot.
Blues successful return is to be determined
There is another angle to look at here, in which the Blues return has not been registered yet. The return was for a first-round pick via Colorado in this upcoming draft, a third-round pick, a goaltending prospect and Jonathan Drouin.
Drouin is really the only thing that can be interpreted right now, but we will have to wait on what General Manager Doug Armstrong does with those draft picks in his last draft. Still, as the Blues continue to win games, and are now knocking on the door of the playoffs, it seems like ridding themselves of their captain sparked a major shift in play.
