Hockey season is in full swing as the preseason starts to wrap up over the next two days. Then, all eyes are on the 84-game regular season.
One of the biggest topics in the NHL today is the 32 Thoughts podcast with Elliotte Friedman and how he addressed the Dylan Larkin situation in Detroit. The former captain has updated his list of teams that he would accept a trade to, and for the St. Louis Blues, it spells disaster.
Let’s talk about it.
Updated list is Central Division heavy
The list of teams that Larkin has would accept a trade too are as follows.

This is a troubling list, as there are three teams inside the Central Division, and coincidentally, they are the “big three” that are likely to finish in the top three of the division. The Blues are not in a position yet to be a contender in the Central, but that day will come soon.
If the Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche, or Dallas Stars get their hands on Larkin, it might push that timeline back a bit.
For context, Larkin has faced off against the Blues on 18 occasions with the Red Wings, and has a respectable five goals and six assists for 11 points.
He is another elite center in this division
The Central Division probably has the best lineup of superstar centers in the NHL. Chicago has Connor Bedard, Colorado has Nathan MacKinnon, Dallas has Wyatt Johnson, and, of course, the Blues have Robert Thomas.
Minnesota seems like the most logical choice for Larkin, as they need to give Kirill Kaprizov the best possible opportunity to do what he does best: score goals. The Blues are going to be pushed down even further in the Central, should Larkin choose a division rival.
He could go elsewhere
Larkin could choose Vegas and join the dark side in NHL terms, or choose Tampa Bay and really stick it to Detroit by picking an Atlantic Division rival. This is going to be an interesting situation to watch as a Blues fan, as this Division continues to grow with talented pieces. Every team is collecting X-factor players like Infinity Stones.
The best hope for the Blues is that their youth develops and they return to the top of the Division that way. If not, facing off against Larkin on whatever team he decides is going to be a tough bet.
