The St. Louis Blues made some incredible acquisitions before the start of the 2026-27 season. Both Mason McTavish and Connor McMichael have really taken in their new surroundings and made the best of them.

So far, McTavish has been a bit more impactful, but it is a very close and early race. No. 83 has been quick, creative, and effective in every offensive situation he has been in. So much so that he may have entered his name into a category that not many would have thought of prior to the year.

Although he did not score a goal against the San Jose Sharks in the 3-2 overtime loss, he made an everlasting impact on the game. With five shots, including a nifty breakaway chance, it is not a bad thought to throw his name in the 40-goal conversation.

Showing up

McTavish has been constantly moving forward with the puck and showing up. He has been a frequent positive on the scoresheet, and the eye-test reveals that he has been the absolute best Blue on the ice for all four games.

He has been worth every bit of the asking price, and his ceiling continues to climb with every game.

First line minutes are coming

Before the game against San Jose, which saw McTavish grab his first assist and third point on the young season, the idea of first-line minutes was thought up. Now, after another failed attempt for Robert Thomas, Jimmy Snuggerud, and Dylan Holloway to get any kind of offense going, the idea is blaring very loudly.

McTavish has earned a spot over No. 21 or No. 81.

Bid on 40-goal club

In regard to the illustrious 40-goal club, which would be a godsend considering the abysmal offensive output seen thus far, McTavish has a very good shot. He is getting pucks on net, driving the puck up the ice, creating chances on breakaways with his blazing speed. All the tools are there for him to score in bunches.

Let us also not forget that McMichael, who is also a potential for some first-line love at some point this season, is a great partner for No. 83. The duo has been inseparable, and key "X-factors" for this Blues team.

With 80 games left to play, there is plenty of time for McTavish to try and hit this mark. The inital performance from 5-on-5 play, as well as on the power play, should ensure that he is due to set a new career-high in goals this season. Reaching 40 should also be an easy enough goal.
